I am a self-taught artist who paints with acrylics on canvas in the
realistic and photorealistic styles.
I spent 24 years in the Air Force and started painting after September 11, 2001
in an effort to relax and focus on something other than the chaos going on in
the world. When I retired in 2005,
my painting had become her passion.
My love of capturing a moment, a scene, or an image realistically with just the
right amount of contrast and value without diminishing the vivid color is
evident in my murals and my canvas paintings.
In my current work, I am exploring my fascination with glass and
wine which are very abstract in nature. I enjoy the challenge of taking the abstract and forming something extremely realistic.
I display my paintings at the Fairfax Art League Old Town Village Gallery and
Old Town Hall Gallery. I have had
several paintings accepted into the monthly exhibits at the Torpedo Factory in
Alexandria, Virginia. I have had a
solo show in Virginia and one in Maryland.
In addition, my work has been exhibited in several group shows in
Florida, Kansas, Texas and Virginia. I have completed numerous commissions for clients in Pennsylvania, Washington
D.C., Florida, Texas, Virginia, Kansas, and Arizona.
I recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award and Membership in the
Cambridge Who's Who. I was awarded an
Honorable Mention during the Fairfax, Virginia Spotlight on the Arts fine art
show and an Equal Merit Award in the Student/Faculty Show at the Torpedo
Factory in Alexandria, Virginia. In
addition, I received five People’s Choice Awards at the Fairfax Art League
Village Gallery. I am also the
recipient of a third place and several Honorable Mention Awards while I lived
in Kansas and an Honorable Mention in Destin, Florida. I am the Co-President of the Fairfax Art
League, a member of The Art League in Alexandria, a member of the National Oil
and Acrylic Painters Society, and a guild member at the Lorton Workhouse.
